versailles(es)
"James Pomerantz has never been to Versailles, France. But he has an idea of Versailles in his head. He has seen countless images of the palace, sculptures, paintings and gardens. Pomerantz know that Versailles was once the seat of the French government and that few places in the world are as synonymous with opulence, excess and also absolute power in government. With this very limited knowledge of Versailles, France, he is visiting the eight towns in the US named Versailles with a large format camera. To date, he has focused on still life images. As he continues on the project, he will be adding formal portraits that mimic classic paintings of the aristocracy who lived in Versailles, France. The final project will be a collection of images very much about The United States, but framed within a global, historical context. "
